AR Rahman unveils first song ‘Rukna Nahi’ from Anthology 'My Melbourne'

The popular singer AR Rahman has introduced the first song, ‘Rukna Nahi’ from the anthology 'My Melbourne', created by filmmakers Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Rima Das, and Onir.

'Rukhna Nahi', is a celebration of empowerment and unity through music. It also highlights important themes like diversity, sexuality, gender, disability, and race, whereas 'My Melbourne' centres around stories of identity in Melbourne, Australia.

The song has been sung by Aryana Sayeed, an Afghani musician who is making her Hindi debut with the song. She hails from Kabul and is currently settled in London.

The song’s lyrics and music were given by Anurag Sharma.

With A.R. Rahman’s blessings and Aryana’s soul-stirring voice, the song sets the tone for an anthology that promises to be a cinematic and musical celebration of cultural harmony.

AR Rahman wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Glad to share the music of ‘My Melbourne’ with you. Best wishes to the entire team. My Melbourne will be released in Cinemas in India on March 14 and in ANZ on March 6.

As per details, the song is from Kabir Khan’s segment ‘Setara’, which revolves around a 15-year-old Afghan refugee who relocates to Melbourne with her mother and sister.

While speaking about the project, Kabir Khan said, “Stories have the power to connect people across borders, and My Melbourne does just that. My film Setara, based on Setera’s own life and journey, which she played on screen as well, delves into themes of resilience and identity, which are deeply personal yet universally relevant. Working on this project has been an enriching experience, and I can’t wait for Indian audiences to witness these stories on the big screen."
