ECC okays multi-billions rupee funding for energy, education and disaster preparedness

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet Friday approved a series of financial allocations and policy measures, 24NewsHD TV reported. 

During the meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the ECC approved Rs13.1 million for Pakistan’s membership in the International Energy Forum.

The committee also approved Rs3 billion for projects aimed at supplying natural gas to villages located near gas fields.

The initiative is expected to address long-standing demands for the equitable distribution of natural resources among residents living near gas fields. 

In the education sector, the ECC approved Rs200 million to pay outstanding dues to teachers working in Basic Education Community Schools.

The committee further endorsed additional funding of $4 million from the World Bank for a project being implemented by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. 

To ensure preparedness for natural disasters, particularly during the monsoon season, the ECC approved Rs3.63 billion for the National Disaster Management Authority to cover expenditures related to monsoon 2025 operations and emergency response activities.

Additionally, the committee sanctioned Rs1.3 billion for the Power Division to support projects under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) programme.

In a key policy decision, the ECC approved a comprehensive reform package for the power sector.

The committee also approved Rs1.47 billion for the payment of outstanding dues related to government public awareness campaigns.
