PM Shehbaz thanks Trump as Pakistan desires permanent end to US-Iran war

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday welcomed the announcement made by US President Donald Trump to bring Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz to a halt, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a tweet, he termed the announcement made at the request of Pakistan and other Muslim countries a positive development for peace in the Gulf since it would ease tensions.

Thanking Trump, the prime minister said that his courageous leadership and timely decision was worth appreciating.

He also described the efforts made by Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman for peace in the region as significant. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for diplomatic efforts for the promotion of peace, stability and reconciliation in the Gulf. PM Shehbaz noted that restraint and the utilization of diplomatic means were necessary in view of the situation in Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed the hope that talks between the US and Iran would soon result in durable peace in the Gulf.

Addressing the 6th International Paigham-e-Islam Conference, he said he was sure that the efforts being made by Field Marshal Asim Munir would lead to a lasting peace in the region. “The restoration of peace will bring prosperity and unemployment will be eliminated,” he added.

He said that Pakistan had adopted an extremely balanced and principled stance for peace, and that it would continue to play its role. Terming Pakistan's role as historic, the prime minister said history would always remember our efforts in golden words.

PM Shehbaz thanked the US and Iran for coming to Pakistan and sitting at the negotiating table.

He also paid tributes to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for his role in peace talks. He said that China, Turkiye and other fraternal countries also contributed in this process. "The defence and security of Harmain Sharifain is more dear to us than our lives. He said the defence agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is a reaffirmation of this firm resolve."
