Police verification made compulsory for online taxi drivers in Lahore

The Government of Punjab has linked online taxi services with police records and made it mandatory for drivers to obtain character certificates as part of new safety measures in Lahore.

According to details, the new security system has been introduced to enhance the protection of women, children and families using ride-hailing services in the city. Officials said the move is aimed at strengthening passenger safety through stricter monitoring.

Faisal Kamran confirmed that a police character certificate is now required for all online taxi drivers. He said an agreement has been reached between Lahore Police and ride-hailing companies to share complete driver data with law enforcement authorities.

Under the new policy, the details of all drivers have been linked with police records, allowing authorities to verify their background and ensure accountability. Police verification has also been made compulsory before the recruitment of any new driver.

The measures were introduced after the Scooty Girl incident, which prompted the provincial government to take immediate action and direct the creation of a comprehensive safety framework.

Authorities have instructed taxi companies to fully implement the new policy to ensure safer travel for citizens across the city.
