PITB sets target to connect 1.5 million new users to broadband in Punjab

Preparations are underway for a major high-speed internet project in Punjab under which a target to connect 1.5 million new users to broadband has been set, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday. 

According to sources in Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), number of broadband connections in the province will be doubled. 

Network will be expanded to more than 400 locations in urban areas. 

Schools, hospitals and government offices will be provided with high-speed internet and public access to digital services will be made easier. 

Time for obtaining permits for telecom companies is being reduced from 90 days to 21 days.

Infrastructure facilities will also be available to increase private sector investment.

Target will be to provide modern digital facilities to 20 million people in the next few years.

The project will bring improvements in education, health and business sectors.
