Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman hit out at the BJP extremists who showed their displeasure after the All India Democratic Women's Association put up a poster of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in Kerala and vandalized it.

Sherry said that the BJP is still threatened by the images and progressive ideas of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto as the latter is a role model not only for women of Pakistan but also for the entire world, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a series of Tweets uploaded on Saturday, Climate Change Minister Sherry wrote: “Extremists everywhere hate the Bhutto name. In Kerala, India when the All India Democratic Women’s Association put up Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s poster as an iconic leader, BJP crowds vandalised it. Her courage outshines their hate. Kudos to #AIDWA for standing up to their ideals.”

She further wrote: “The All India Democratic Women's Association has decorated the invites of the National Conference with the pictures of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

“The BJP extremists still feel threatened by the images and progressive ideas of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. The All India Democratic Women's Association has paid rich tribute to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. I salute the courage of All India Democratic Women's Association.

“Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto is a role model not only for women of Pakistan but also for the entire world. Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto fought against the extremism throughout her life and stood firm like a mountain till the end. The so-called extremists of the Modi government and the BJP are still afraid of the name "Bhutto".

Benazir Bhutto's photo in AIDWA poster

The Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), the women's wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for using the picture of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in its poster.

The poster, which announced the AIDWA conference to be held in Thiruvananthapuram from Friday to Monday, also mentioned that Bhutto was the first woman prime minister of Pakistan, who was honoured with nine honorary doctorates, including one from Cambridge University.

Kerala State BJP president K Surendran said, "Simple logic - a stab on India and votes from terrorists".

State BJP spokesperson Sandeep Vachaspathi said this was an anti-national act by the CPI(M). "The poster of Bhutto has been prominently displayed in the heart of the state capital city. I am not asking them who Bhutto is to them. They have been doing such acts for a long time. They are adoring a person who has always been trying to destroy our country and such people (CPI-M)) are the enemies of our country and we should realise that," said Vachaspathi.

"We needn't expect more than this from a new generation of those who tried to subvert India's struggle for independence.

"It is not Pakistan or China who are our enemies but our 'comrades' and all of us have to be wary of them and should always be on high alert. This happens because there is a following here who will gulp down whatever their leaders speak without any issues," added Vachaspathi.
