Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi meet in Adiala Jail after family’s sit-in outside

The Adiala Jail administration facilitated a meeting between former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi after a forceful protest and sit-in staged by Khan’s family members outside the prison. 

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, jail sources said the meeting took place yesterday in the jail’s conference room, where the couple spent 45 minutes together and inquired after each other’s well-being. 

Jail sources also confirmed that a similar meeting had been arranged last week and stressed that all interactions were conducted in accordance with jail regulations.

The sources also confirmed that essential items sent by Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, including blankets, warm clothing, dates, dry fruits and other necessities, were received by the jail administration.

The meeting between Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi soon after jail authorities barred Khan’s sisters and legal team from meeting him. 

Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan, Salman Akram Raja and several PTI leaders and workers were stopped at the factory checkpoint and prevented from reaching the prison, prompting them to stage a sit-in at the site. A large number of PTI supporters and lawyers joined the protest.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government spokesperson Shafi Jan condemned the refusal, saying the PTI founder had been denied meetings with his lawyers and family since 4 December 2025, a move he described as a violation of basic human rights.

Addressing the sit-in outside Adiala Jail, Movement for Protection of the Constitution (MPC) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai criticised the treatment of Khan’s family, noting that despite court orders, water cannons were used against his sisters. 

He said Pakistan Awami Movement (PAM) members had arrived to express solidarity, arguing that even the world’s most dangerous criminals were allowed family meetings, and the PTI founder’s family had the same right. 

Calling Imran Khan a popular leader, he questioned why he had been made prime minister if he was considered unfit. He claimed the Pakistan Democratic Movement was formed and granted an NRO, adding that if Khan had made mistakes, his family should at least be allowed to meet him. If the mistakes lay elsewhere, he said, those responsible should acknowledge them. Achakzai urged for dialogue to rectify past wrongs.

Achakzai alleged that the mandate of 250 million Pakistanis was altered on February 8, claiming that those who won were declared losers and those who lost were declared winners. He announced protest next month on February 8.
