Probe reveals motive behind university's student’s suicide attempt
The mystery surrounding the suicide attempt by a female student at a private university in Lahore has begun to unravel, as investigators have identified family pressure over marriage as the primary factor that drove the young girl to take the extreme step, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.
According to investigation sources, Fatima Hussain, a D-Pharm student, attempted suicide after her family refused to accept her wish to marry a person of her choice.
Sources said Fatima wanted to marry her friend, but her family strongly opposed the proposal and was pressuring her to marry elsewhere.
Investigators revealed that persistent pressure and strict behaviour by family members deeply affected the student, eventually pushing her towards the drastic act.
Sources added that heated arguments had already taken place at home due to her insistence on a love marriage.
It was further disclosed that Fatima spoke to her friend shortly before the incident at the university, prompting police to also question the friend as part of the investigation to establish the complete chain of events.
