China has expressed its readiness to expand bilateral cooperation with Pakistan at every level while Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that a special protection unit was being set up in Islamabad for the security of Chinese nationals working on different projects in Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to a press release issued by the interior ministry, Naqvi made the remarks while holding in-depth talks with China’s Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong in Beijing on Wednesday.

The two ministers met at the headquarters of China’s Ministry of Public Security, where Naqvi received a warm welcome, the interior ministry said.

During the meeting, the leaders agreed to develop a joint and rapid response system against terrorism, including expanding training programmess aimed at enhancing police capacity, it added.

Xiaohong lauded Pakistan’s efforts in countering terrorism and strengthening internal security, the statement said. “We appreciate Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism,” he was quoted as saying.

Mohsin Naqvi informed Wang Xiaohong that the protection of Chinese nationals and joint development projects in Pakistan remained his top priority, adding that Islamabad was establishing a dedicated special protection unit to enhance security of Chinese nationals in the capital.

Wang, in response, reaffirmed China’s strategic partnership with Pakistan and said Beijing was prepared to deepen cooperation across all domains.

He praised Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and expressed satisfaction over the country’s efforts to safeguard Chinese citizens and projects. He also invited Naqvi to attend the Global Security Cooperation Forum in China this September.

Both sides agreed to broaden training exchange programmes to strengthen police capacity and improve professional skills, while also enhancing mechanisms for joint and rapid response against terrorism and organised crime.

It was decided in the meeting that the joint working group would convene every three months and that the ministers would meet once a year. Discussions also covered the Islamabad-Beijing sister-city arrangement.

Mohsin Naqvi stressed the importance of institutional training to ensure the exchange of expertise and information between the two countries and extended an invitation to Wang to visit Pakistan.

He conveyed Pakistan’s desire to expand long-term cooperation to address security challenges, including cybercrime, and welcomed China’s offer of AI-based technological support.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also delivered good wishes from Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China’s top leadership.

Naqvi apprised the Chinese minister of the measures being taken to ensure the security of Chinese citizens in Pakistan, at which the latter expressed his satisfaction. “The protection of Chinese citizens and projects of mutual interest remains our top priority,” Naqvi was quoted as saying.

He further said that “effective measures had been taken to ensure the security of Chinese citizens in Pakistan”. He said “A special protection unit was being set up in Islamabad for the security of Chinese nationals.”

The ministers also discussed cooperation in the prevention of cybercrimes. “Pakistan wants to benefit from the support of Chinese institutions to enhance the capacity of the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA),“ the statement quoted Naqvi as saying, adding Chinese-based AI technologies could be of “great help in countering terrorism and addressing security challenges”.

He said that Pakistan and China shared a bond based on “sustainable cooperation”, expressing the desire to expand this cooperation further to tackle security challenges and protect mutual interests, the statement said.

Naqvi extended an invitation to the Chinese minister to visit Pakistan, and conveyed his best wishes to the Chinese president and prime minister on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Xiaohong also invited Naqvi to attend the Global Security Cooperation Forum — to be held in China in September, the statement added.

The Chinese minister expressed willingness to cooperate with Pakistan at all levels, stressing that “Pakistan and China are strategic partners”.

Wang hosted a luncheon in honour of Naqvi and his delegation. Senior officials from both countries attended the meeting, including Chinese ministers, Beijing’s deputy mayor, and senior security and counterterrorism officials, while Pakistan was represented by senior interior ministry, police, and diplomatic officials.
