PDMA issues flood warning for Punjab rivers, urban areas amid heavy rain forecast

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an urgent flood warning across various areas of the province, anticipating extraordinary rises in water levels in major rivers and mountain channels between July 7 and July 9, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.  

The alert comes amid ongoing monsoon rains that have already caused casualties and disruptions in parts of the country.

In a statement released on Monday, the PDMA warned of a high flood risk in the Chenab River at Marala Headworks, one of the key flood-prone points in the province.

The authority also flagged a medium to high flood threat in drainage channels adjacent to the Ravi and Chenab Rivers, urging immediate precautionary measures in surrounding areas.

PDMA also apprehended a flash flood in Rod Kohis (mountain channels) of Dera Ghazi Khan.

PDMA has also cautioned against likely urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Rawalpindi divisions.

The disaster management authority has issued an alert to Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and WASA authorities.

Rescue 1122 has been directed to prepare in advance to tackle any emergency situation, along with the storage of fuel.

“People should be kept aware of the developing situation along with the supply of food and clean water,” PDMA directed.

Citizens and livestock from the riverbanks should be evacuated to safer places, PDMA ordered.
