KP approves Rs126 million relief package for minority families affected by terrorism

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Tuesday approved a Rs126 million relief package for minority families affected by terrorism.

The decision was made at a meeting of the assessment committee chaired by Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs Sahibzada Muhammad Adnan Qadri.

The committee reviewed 173 applications and approved financial assistance for 167 eligible individuals and families. Widows, injured people, orphaned children, unmarried women and persons with disabilities were declared eligible for financial assistance.

Officials said that all applications were scrutinised thoroughly both at the district and department levels before approval. Each case was re-verified to ensure transparency and merit.

The committee decided that women qualifying for multiple categories would receive assistance only once. Moreover, seven permanent disability cases were reviewed and six of them were approved conditionally, subject to submission of the required documents.

The government approved Rs4 million in financial assistance for the family affected by the Mardan Gurdwara Singh Sabha attack. Financial compensation will also be provided to the legal heirs of the late Jagan Nath and his wife.

The district investigation committee has been directed to complete its report within one week to expedite the process.

Qadri said it is the responsibility of the state and the entire nation to support the victims of terrorism. He reiterated that the provincial government remains committed to protecting minorities, safeguarding religious freedom and providing financial assistance to every affected family.
