Dacoits open fire on police in Rawalpindi; six injured
At least six people, including a police constable and a woman, were injured in an exchange of gunfire late at night after armed robbers opened fire on the Police Mohafiz Squad in Rawalpindi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred on Chakri-Lakho Road, where a patrolling unit of the Police Mohafiz Squad, including Constable Kashif Shehzad, Nauman, and Hamza Rasheed, was on routine duty.
A local resident informed the police that robbers riding on two motorcycles had snatched PKR 200,000 in cash. When the police attempted to pursue the suspects, the robbers opened fire on the squad.
As a result, five passersby and Constable Hamza were injured, including a woman, all of whom were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Naseerabad Police Station has launched a search operation to trace and arrest the culprits. Authorities say CCTV footage is being reviewed, and checkpoints have been set up at key exit routes.
