Pakistan Army's services for AJK deserve to be written in golden words

The Pakistan Army has rendered innumerable sacrifices for Azad Jammu and Kashmir; be it defending the territory against the Indian forces or carrying out rescue and relief activities in the aftermath of the 2005 earthquake in which thousands of people had lost their lives.   

Here is the full reality check:

The Legal Mandate Under the 1949 Karachi Agreement, AJK’s early leadership explicitly entrusted the state's defense to the Government of Pakistan.

The army's presence is a lawful constitutional obligation to protect the region, not an occupation.

Kashmiri Blood in the Top Brass: The military is heavily integrated with the sons of AJK. From the elite, highly decorated Azad Kashmir (AK) Regiment to high-ranking military commanders, local Kashmiris have always led from the front.

In this context, Umar Nazir Kashmiri’s statement calling the Pakistan Army a "ghair mulki fauj" (foreign army) is a dangerous distortion of law, history, and reality.

Labeling the region's defense shield as "foreigners" is not just factually bankrupt; it is strategically reckless.

You cannot call your own brothers, uncles, and martyrs "outsiders."

The Shield Against IIOJK Reality: Without this defense shield, AJK risks instantly becoming Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Across the Line of Control, India has deployed nearly 900,000 occupational personnel under a Hindutva-driven agenda, stripping locals of their autonomy since 2019. The Pakistan Army is the only wall preventing that kinetic expansionism.

First Responders in Crises:

The army has been AJK's ultimate lifeline. During the catastrophic 2005 earthquake, they led the massive rescue effort and rebuilt towns like Muzaffarabad from the rubble. Whether clearing deadly landslides in Neelum Valley or rescuing families from severe winter snowstorms, they are always the first on the ground.

De-mining the Borderlands: 

Along the LoC, Indian forces have historically laid landmines and fired cluster ammunition.

The Pakistan Army’s engineering teams continuously run de-mining operations to clear agricultural fields and village paths, saving local lives and livestock from hidden explosions.

Border Civilian Support: The army regularly provides food rations, free solar panels, and clean drinking water filtration plants to communities living directly on the LoC who face economic isolation due to cross-border tensions.

Socio-Economic Backbone:

In remote, underserved areas, Combined Military Hospitals provide vital healthcare to civilians, while Army Public Schools and Cadet Colleges provide quality education to the youth. Furthermore, military engineering corps build and maintain the treacherous road networks that connect AJK’s valleys to trade and tourism. One of the best, Communication system of AJK with high-speed internet is being provided by SCO (a military organisation).

Demanding economic rights and cheaper utilities from Umar Nazir Kashmiri in a statement is legitimate activism. However, calling the very institution that builds your roads, runs your hospitals, clears your landmines, rescues you from natural disasters, and bleeds on your borders a "foreign army" is historically blind and strategically suicidal.
