ECP fails to release schedule for Punjab polls so far

March 7, 2023 01:28 PM

The Election Commission of Pakistan has so far failed to release the election schedule even after the announcement of Punjab Assembly election date three days ago, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

According to sources, the ECP is required to issue the poll schedule today in order to complete the mandatory 54-day period.

If the schedule is issued today, then it will be made public on March 8, sources added.

The President announced the date for elections in Punjab on March 3.

Sources divulged that the release of election schedule was delayed due to consultation on the appointments of ROs and RODs.

The ECP will appoint the ROs and RODs along with the release of election schedule today, sources added.

They said that since the judiciary refused to spare its staff, the ROs will now be taken from the bureaucracy.
