Apple unveils new iPads, MacBook Air M4

This week, Apple introduced two fresh iPad models—the updated iPad Air and a new entry-level iPad—along with a refreshed MacBook Air powered by the M4 chip, the same one found in the high-end Pro models! Here's everything you need to know.

Like the M3 MacBook Air, the new MacBook Air comes in two sizes: a 13-inch model and a larger 15-inch version. Both feature Apple’s latest M4 chip, designed to deliver faster performance for everyday tasks and creative projects while improving energy efficiency. It still boasts an impressive 18-hour battery life and can now support up to two external displays—even when the MacBook’s own screen is open (perfect for multitaskers!). The upgraded 12-megapixel built-in camera with “Centre Stage” ensures you’re always in the frame during FaceTime calls.

On the outside, the new MacBook Air doesn’t look much different, maintaining its slim and lightweight design that’s easy to carry throughout the day. The excellent display remains unchanged, which isn’t necessarily a downside, though it means you won’t get the “nano-texture” display found on the latest MacBook Pro M4 model. One significant upgrade is the increased default RAM, making the laptop more future-proof and capable of handling more demanding tasks. Plus, it now comes in a sleek new light blue color, which is a lovely addition.

Fortunately, there’s no price increase. In the UK, the 13-inch model starts at £999—£100 less than the M3 MacBook Air last year—while the 15-inch model starts at £1,199. You can choose from four color options, including the new blue, silver, Starlight, and Midnight.

In addition to the MacBook Air, Apple has refreshed its iPad lineup with two new models, beginning with an updated iPad Air. This model is still available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes and is now powered by the improved M3 chip, making it a fantastic mid-range option for everything from productivity to media streaming. Unless you need the high-end performance of the iPad Pro, the Air offers many of its perks at a more affordable price.

The iPad Air is available in blue, purple, “Starlight,” and “Space Grey” colors. In the UK, the 11-inch model starts at £599, while the 13-inch version begins at £799—the same launch prices as the 2024 models.

Additionally, you can now grab an upgraded Magic Keyboard for the iPad Air. It supports both the new and older iPad Air models and features a larger trackpad, faster charging via the USB-C port, and a full row of function keys on the keyboard.

The standard iPad has also been refreshed with its 11th generation release. Powered by the A16 Bionic chip, this entry-level iPad delivers a significant performance boost over its predecessors, making it a great upgrade from an older iPad or an excellent first iPad.

However, this model doesn’t support Apple Intelligence—those AI-powered features are reserved for the iPad Air or iPad Mini. On a positive note, the standard iPad now comes with more storage by default (128GB, up from 64GB), giving you more space for videos, photos, and music.

The new iPad is available in silver, blue, pink, and yellow, and starts at a very affordable £329.
