Sugar price climbs up to Rs170 per kilo during Ramazan

After an increase of Rs4.96 paisa, sugar price reached to Rs170 during the first week of holy month of Ramazan, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Friday.

As per latest statistics issued by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) price of sugar touched to Rs170 per kilogram across the country.

An average sugar price of Rs164.64 was also registered while sugar is available on maximum price of Rs170 per kilogram.

As per documents, during the month of January 2025, an increase of Rs24 per kilo was witnessed in sugar price while during last three months sugar price registered an increase of Rs30.79 paisa.

Retailers in Karachi feared that the price may hit Rs200 if a bullish trend persists in the wholesale market. However, wholesalers blame millers for increasing the rates.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (Punjab Zone) spokesman has claimed that there has been no abnormal increase in the ex-mill price as it fluctuates due to demand and supply factors.

Usually, the sugar industry is blamed for the price hike. While the ground reality is that as soon as the sugar sacks leave the mill premises, it will become the game of the wholesalers and retailers, the spokesman explained.
