Lahore District Weightlifting Association announces annual calendar

The Lahore District Weightlifting Association has announced its annual calendar of events following its general council’s yearly meeting held in Lahore on Saturday.

The meeting was chaired by association president Abdul Sattar Rahi, while representatives from all affiliated clubs of the association, including both male and female members, attended the meeting in large numbers.

Prominent sports figure Nuzhat Jabeen also addressed the gathering and appreciated the association’s efforts to promote weightlifting at the grassroots level.

On the occasion, an Iftar dinner was also hosted by Hafiz Imran Butt, president of the Pakistan Weightlifting Referees Association.

According to the newly announced calendar, the Senior Lahore District Weightlifting Championship will be held in mid-April at ART Club on Fort Road under the supervision of former international weightlifter Qaiser Iftikhar.

In May, the Punjab Stadium will host men’s and women’s weightlifting competitions organised by the National Weightlifting Club.

The event will be supervised by Abdullah Sohail Butt and Naila Maqsood Butt.

During the same period, coaching courses for women, along with referees’ training and anti-doping workshops, will also be conducted to enhance professional standards in the sport.

On August 14, the Independence Day Weightlifting Championship will be organised by the Muslim Health Club in Shad Bagh under the supervision of former international weightlifter Idrees Butt.

Meanwhile, the Junior Lahore Youth Championship is scheduled to take place in September at Hajveri Club near Kalma Chowk.

The competition will be overseen by sports officials Asim Akbar and Khawar Ali.

Officials expressed hope that the planned events and training programmes would help promote weightlifting talent in Lahore and provide young athletes with opportunities to compete and develop their skills at the district and national levels.
