Scheduled to release in cinemas across Pakistan on May 8, Mera Lyari recently held its world premiere at the UK Asian Film Festival in London, where the film received significant appreciation.
The sports drama marks Dananeer Mobeen’s official cinema debut, with the actress portraying Afsana, a young girl from Lyari who discovers empowerment and freedom through football. The film aims to spotlight the resilience of female athletes while challenging long-held stereotypes surrounding Karachi’s historic Lyari neighborhood.
Written and directed by Abu Aleeha, the project also stars Ayesha Omar, who additionally serves as the film’s executive producer.
Earlier, Dananeer also made headlines during the London premiere for her culturally inspired red carpet appearance. Blending traditional Balochi elements with contemporary fashion, her look paid tribute to Lyari’s heritage and became one of the standout moments of the festival.
With support pouring in from fellow celebrities and fans alike, Mera Lyari is shaping up to be one of the most talked about Pakistani film releases of the season.
