Ministers want to discuss TLP ban issue in cabinet

Some federal ministers who were against the decision of the federal government regarding removal of proscribed status from the religious outfit Tehreek-e-Labbaik have proposed to present the matter for debate in the regular cabinet session, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Sources informed 24NewsHD on Sunday that some federal ministers wanted to have a threadbare discussion on the matter of de-listing the TLP of its banned status in the regular session of the cabinet. 

Some ministers were of the view that since the TLP was a sensitive issue, so the matter could be discussed in the cabinet session slated to be held on Tuesday.

Sources said if Prime Minister Imran Khan gave his approval, the matter could be discussed in the regular session of the federal cabinet. 

Yesterday, the cabinet division circulated the summary seeking removal of the proscribed status from the TLP among federal ministers after the approval of Prime Minister Khan.

Implementing the agreement with the long marchers gradually, the federal cabinet Saturday approved the withdrawal of a ban on the TLP.

The approval was sought from the federal cabinet through a circulation summary at the request of the Punjab government.

The law ministry was also consulted on the matter, sources said adding that the Punjab government had sought cancellation of the annulment of the TLP in the national interest.

It is pertinent to mention here that the federal cabinet had approved in April 2021 the annulment of the TLP.

After the approval of the federal cabinet, the proscribed TLP was no more remained a banned party and would be freed for its political activities.
