PDMA Punjab issues flood alert for Ganda Singhwala as Sutlej River levels rise

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a flood alert for Ganda Singhwala on the Sutlej River, warning of a moderate flood expected in the next two days.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, a low flood situation currently prevails in the area, but the water level is likely to rise due to recent rainfall and water releases from Indian reservoirs.

Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said that the water flow in the Sutlej and Ravi rivers largely depends on releases from across the border. He directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab to remain on high alert and ensure timely coordination with relevant departments.

“As per the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, an alert has been issued to the district administration,” the DG stated. He added that continuous monitoring of water levels and proactive measures are being taken to minimize potential damage.

Alerts have also been issued to the Health, Irrigation, Communication & Works, Local Government, and Livestock Departments to remain prepared for emergency response.

The DG urged citizens to stay cautious during adverse weather conditions and follow official advisories. In case of emergency, people have been advised to contact the PDMA helpline 1129 for assistance.
