Robbers in Karachi loot Rs20 million from bank cash van

Police in Karachi on Sunday registered an FIR against armed persons for robbing over Rs20 million from a bank cash van at Kalima Chowk in the jurisdiction of Manghopir police station two days ago, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

Before fleeing, the suspects had also snatched a weapon from a security guard escorting the van.

In the FIR, registered on the complaint of Security Supervisor Ghazi Khan, the supervisor said that he reached the New Nazimabad Gate for a security check. “As soon as I reached the gate, I saw the van passing through it.

Two security guards were mounted on a motorbike, while others were sitting inside the van,” he said in the FIR, adding, “Suddenly, five armed persons appeared, stopped the van and snatched a rifle from one of the guards, named Aftab. Then the suspects snatched the amount and fled from the spot.”  

The supervisor said he could recognize the robbers if they were produced before him.

On the other hand, as per the CCTV footage of the incident, the 24News TV channel has obtained, five suspects, sitting on two bikes, surrounded the van and fled after committing the robbery. Before fleeing, they also snatched a rifle from the guard.  

The police, on the other hand, said that they were trying to arrest the suspects and recover the amount from them. 

The Force said that so far, they had taken 10 people into custody.

On the other hand, taking notice of the incident, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar ordered the SSP West to submit a report. 

He also ordered that police teams be sent for the arrest of the dacoits. 

Lanjar said he was at a loss to understand why the police were in dark about the movement of such a large amount of money.
