National Dredging and Marine Services started its first dredging operation at Karachi Port Trust (KPT), which would mark a major upgrade to maritime infrastructure, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
The management of Karachi Port Trust has announced that it’s the first time that four important dredges start digging for four months at the same time.
The project will deepen both the upper and lower harbour channels to 14 metres while increasing the depth at 14 berths to 15.5 metres, facilitating safer navigation and expanding cargo-handling capacity.
Upon completion within three months, the project will enable KPT to accommodate vessels up to 350 metres in length with a gross registered tonnage (GRT) of 100,000.
This initiative is expected to support higher trade volumes, lower shipping costs, and improve logistics efficiency, contributing to broader economic growth.
