Airports Authority suffers Rs4.10 billion loss due to airspace closure

Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has suffered a loss of Rs4.10 billion due to the closure of airspace with India, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday. 

According to details submitted by the Ministry of Defence in the National Assembly, Pakistan's airspace was closed from April 24 to June 20, 2025.

During Marka-e-Haq, Pakistan closed its airspace for all kinds of Indian flights. Due to the closure of the airspace, about 100 to 150 Indian flights are affected on a daily basis, and the air traffic has decreased by 20 percent.

In 2019, Pakistan International Airlines faced a loss of $54 million under the head of overflying income. In his written statement, Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Mohammad Asif said that due to the closure of airspace with India, Pakistan have to bear some financial loss, but it's not more important than Pakistan’s sovereignty and defence.

Pakistan airspace is open for all flights except India.

Prior to tension with India in 2019, Pakistan was earning $50,8,000 per day due to the usage of its airspace.

The Defence minister said that despite a temporary suspension in income, PIA showed financial stability.
