The 282nd three-day annual Urs of Sindh’s revered Sufi saint and poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, will commence tomorrow (Saturday) with formal inauguration by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.

The ceremonies will begin at 10 am when the governor lays a ceremonial chadar at the saint’s shrine in Bhit Shah.

Elaborate arrangements have been completed for the Urs, which attracts thousands of devotees from across the country.

On the final day of the event, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah will present the Shah Latif Awards. Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is also expected to attend the concluding ceremony.

The Sindh government has declared a public holiday across the province on the opening day.

Hyderabad Commissioner has imposed a ban on the display of weapons during the three-day celebrations, while a force of 3,000 police personnel has been deployed to ensure security.

The shrine and surrounding city are being decorated ahead of the festivities, which are set to honour the legacy of the poet known as the “crown of poets” and a symbol of Sindh’s spiritual heritage.
