Karachi court grants bail to accused in Rs3.2b pensions scam

An accountability court in Karachi Thursday granted bail to three accused in a case of Rs3.2 billion pensions scam and also ordered the authorities concerned to place their names on the Exit Control List (ECL), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The court pronounced the verdict on the bail application of the three accused. Ijaz Ali, Majid Ali and Azhar Hussain were granted bail on the condition of submitting Rs5 million worth of surety bonds each.
“Until the case is decided, the passports of the accused will also be deposited in the court,” the court ruled.
“If the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) wants, it can file a petition to cancel the bail of the accused,” it added.
According to the NAB, as many as 84 officers including former deputy secretary finance Amir Zia were nominated as accused in the case.
The accused were blamed for being involved in the pensions scam in Hyderabad Treasury.
They were accused of extending a damage of Rs3.2 billion to the national treasury.
