IMF optimism lifts share prices at Pakistan Stock Exchange

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday started the new business week with gains ahead of a meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board to approve $1.2 billion loan installment to Pakistan, reported 4NewsHD TV channel.

During intraday trading, the PSX’s benchmark KSE-100 index gained 654.49 points to reach 167,740.07 points, marking a positive change of 0.39 percent.

Out of 560 active companies, 294 advanced, 151 declined and 115 remained unchanged.

The IMF Executive Board is scheduled to meet today (Monday), to consider the approval of a $1.2 billion tranche for Pakistan.

Pakistan and the IMF had reached a staff-level agreement on October 14, 2025. Pakistan has fulfilled all the required conditions to receive the next installment under its ongoing IMF loan programme.

Before the board meeting, Pakistan submitted the Corruption and Governance Diagnostic report, which was a key precondition set by the IMF. Officials said the report demonstrates the country’s commitment to transparency and reform.

Earlier on Friday, the index had closed on a bullish note, rising by 802.03 points, a positive change of 0.48 percent, to settle at 167,085.58 points.

During the session, the ready market recorded a trading volume of 686.834 million shares with a traded value of Rs41.621 billion, against 607.790 million shares valuing Rs31.224 billion in the previous session. Market capitalization increased to Rs19.038 trillion from Rs18.948 trillion.

Telecard Limited led the volume chart with 58.072 million shares, followed by F. Nat. Equities with 44.579 million shares, and First Dawood Properties with 39.944 million shares.

The top gainers included Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited, increasing by Rs656.32 to close at Rs29,198.99, and Hoechst Pakistan Limited, which rose by Rs116.32 to settle at Rs4,334.82.

Major losers were Rafhan Maize Products Company Limited, falling by Rs80.22 to close at Rs9,300.29, and Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited, declining by Rs43.34 to close at Rs1,499.66.
