Shane Mosley weighs In on Joshua vs Jake Paul, calls matchup “Too Big a Challenge” for Paul

Hall of Fame boxer Shane Mosley has shared his thoughts on the highly anticipated clash between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul, calling the British heavyweight “too big” for the YouTuber-turned-boxer but acknowledging the unpredictability of the sport.

Joshua and Paul are set to meet on December 19 at the Kaseya Centre in Miami in an eight-round sanctioned bout with 10oz gloves.

The fight was arranged after Paul’s scheduled November 14 showdown with Gervonta Davis was cancelled following new domestic abuse allegations against the WBA lightweight champion.

The matchup has drawn widespread criticism since its announcement, with many pointing to the glaring physical and experience gap. Joshua, a former two-time unified world heavyweight champion, stands much taller, is significantly heavier, and has fought at the highest levels of professional boxing.

In contrast, Paul has competed mainly at cruiserweight and has mostly faced MMA fighters and ageing opponents, including 60-year-old Mike Tyson.

Speaking to Fight Hype, Mosley—who has spent time in Paul’s camp and worked his corner in two fights—acknowledged the massive challenge ahead for the American.

“I don’t have any thoughts about that,” Mosley said.

 “The only thing I can think of is that Anthony Joshua is just too big for him. I mean, I can’t see another way—but anything happens in fighting, in boxing.

Jake wants to beat Anthony Joshua. I wouldn’t even try to predict the fight.”

Despite concerns surrounding competitiveness, the event is among the most lucrative boxing spectacles ever organised.

Reports suggest an estimated purse of £140 million will be split evenly, giving both Joshua and Paul around £70 million each.

With global hype building and experts questioning the matchup’s merit, the bout remains one of the most talked-about sporting events of the year.
