Sindh Assembly condemns anti-army statements, passes key legislative measures

The Sindh Assembly session on Monday was marked by strong expressions of support for Pakistan’s security forces as lawmakers unanimously passed a resolution condemning statements against the Pakistan Army and national security.

The resolution was presented by Law Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, who said the House “condemns statements against national security” and stands in “full solidarity with Pakistan’s forces.” He criticized the growing trend of blaming security institutions for political matters and emphasized that soldiers’ efforts should not be undermined.

Lanjar stated, “Everything is blamed on our security forces. Political matters should not be blamed on the security forces. The soldiers of the forces should not be criticized. Our forces have worked for the good name of the country.”

Sindh’s Interior Minister reinforced the sentiment, noting the security challenges on the borders with Afghanistan and India, and highlighting the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s armed forces. He called it “extremely sad and shameful” when families of political leaders make false statements on Indian channels, adding that such comments only benefit hostile countries. 

MQM-P Extends Full Support

MQM-P’s Ali Khursheedi voiced his party’s complete support for the resolution, saying, “Let us talk about the state above politics. We stand with the Pakistan Army.” He added that statements against the armed forces serve only the enemy’s interests and urged the federal government to take steps to curb such rhetoric.

Khursheedi said Pakistanis were proud of the work the Army has done, particularly referencing its contributions in May, which he said helped make the country “invincible in the world.”

The Assembly resolved that no remarks undermining Pakistan or its armed forces will be tolerated and called for sending a strong message nationwide. 

Key Bills Presented and Passed

The session was also notable for significant legislative activity:

Sindh Domestic Workers Welfare Bill 2025, presented by Law Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, was referred to the relevant standing committee for review.

Sindh Revenue Board (Amendment) Bill 2025 was introduced and later passed. Lanjar explained that the amendments were required under IMF conditions and to improve mechanisms for collecting agricultural tax in Sindh. 

HPV Vaccine Adjournment Motion

PPP’s Dr. Sikandar Shoro moved an adjournment motion regarding the HPV vaccine, calling for a discussion on the matter. Law Minister Lanjar agreed on the importance of the issue, and the Deputy Speaker announced that the motion will be taken up next Monday. 

Session Adjourned

After completing the day’s agenda, the Sindh Assembly session was adjourned until 12 noon tomorrow, setting the stage for further discussions and legislative action in the coming days.

The session underscored a unified political front in support of Pakistan’s armed forces while advancing key policy initiatives across labor welfare, taxation, and public health.
