UN still awaiting India’s response on Indus Waters Treaty violations
India has yet to respond to queries regarding its actions under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), as 51 days have passed since the deadline set by United Nations special rapporteurs, raising concerns at the international level, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.
According to sources, India was formally asked to explain its measures related to the Indus Waters Treaty by December 16, 2025.
However, despite the lapse of the stipulated timeframe, New Delhi has not submitted any response, failing to clarify its position on the matter for the last 51 days.
The United Nations is still awaiting India’s response, while questions surrounding New Delhi’s conduct under the treaty remain unresolved.
Observers noted that the continued lack of engagement has intensified diplomatic attention on the issue.
India’s prolonged silence has increasingly become a focus of international concern, as stakeholders stress the importance of transparency and adherence to international agreements governing transboundary water resources.
