A major robbery unfolded in Karachi's Bahadurabad area, where two new female maids escaped with more than 100 tolas of gold worth Rs 45 million, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.
According to an FIR registered at the Bahadurabad Police Station, the complaint was lodged by construction company owner Ahmad Yousuf Bambia, who is a resident of Muhammad Ali Society.
The owner stated in the FIR that he had hired two maids, Nadia and Dilshad, on January 5 on the assurance of the building’s watchman. He was informed that the women were sisters-in-law and came with a trusted reference.
In his statement, Bambia said both the maids arrived for duty on January 7 at around 1:45 pm and worked until 6 pm before leaving.
Shortly afterwards, the women of the household returned from visiting relatives and realised the maids were no longer present.
The owner of the house said his wife found empty jewellery boxes scattered on the floor and noticed that the cupboard lock had been broken.
Upon inspection, the family discovered that six gold sets, bangles, rings and karas had been taken by the new maids with them.
Police have registered the case and launched an investigation, with efforts underway to trace the suspects.
