At least five people died and 12 others injured in collision between passenger van and a truck here on Wednesday, rescue sources said.

According to details, the accident took place near Fatehpur Kamal in Zafarabad area of Rahim Yar Khan where Sadiqabad bound passenger van coming from Alipur while trying to save a motorcyclist got out control due to bursting of tyre and rammed into a truck.

As a result of collision five people died on the spot while 12 others were injured.

The bodies and injured were shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital while another wounded person was shifted to Bahawal Victoria Hospital.

According to hospital sources, condition of various injured people was critical and it was feared that death toll could rise further.

The police impounded both vehicles and after registering a case into the incident have started an investigation.
