The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the Punjab government to set up Police Complaints Authority, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

In the verdict pronounced by Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafiq of the LHC on the petition of ASI Hafeezullah Shahid, he has ordered the provincial government to set up the Authority as soon as possible.

The court has regretted that it has been 21 years since the Police Order has taken effect, still no effort has been made to set up the Authority.

The 15-page verdict has been hailed as a judicial precedent.

The LHC has also directed that a copy of its verdict be sent to the chief secretary for its implementation.
