Court rejects YouTuber Razi Tahir's bail in Imran Khan related tweet case
A court of Islamabad on Wednesday rejected the post-arrest bail application of YouTuber Razi Tahir in a case linked to controversial social media posts about an alleged meeting between PTI founder Imran Khan and a former senior figure.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the hearing was held at the District and Sessions Courts Islamabad before Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah, who dismissed the bail application after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence.
During the proceedings, prosecutors representing the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) urged the court to reject the application.
They informed the court that the forensic examination of the suspect's mobile phone and other electronic devices is still pending and argued that the investigation has not yet been completed.
The defence argued that Razi Tahir had already been questioned by investigators and that there was no legal justification for keeping him in custody.
Defence counsel also cited several higher court judgments in support of the bail request, maintaining that the investigating agency already has possession of the suspect's mobile phone and social media account.
The prosecution maintained that the pending forensic reports remain an important part of the investigation and requested the court not to grant bail at this stage.
On June 28, the TV channel reported, a district court in Islamabad has handed YouTuber Razi Tahir over to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on a two-day physical remand in a case related to controversial tweets concerning an alleged meeting between PTI founder Imran Khan and a former senior personality.
The hearing was held at the District and Sessions Courts Islamabad before Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah, where NCCIA officials sought a ten-day physical remand of the accused.
During the proceedings, NCCIA informed the court that physical remand was required for the recovery of mobile phones and other electronic devices allegedly linked to the case.
After hearing the arguments, the court approved a two-day physical remand instead of the ten days requested by the agency.
The judge directed investigators to produce Razi Tahir before the court again on June 26 after the completion of the remand period.
The case pertains to controversial tweets regarding an alleged meeting between the PTI founder and a former high-ranking personality.
Razi Tahir was arrested a day earlier after his pre-arrest bail application was dismissed by the court.
