‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3 hopes sparked as creator David E. Kelley, cast express eagerness to return

The Monterey Five might be gearing up for another explosive return, as Big Little Lies creator David E. Kelley has revealed renewed hopes for a long-awaited season three of the hit HBO drama.

Speaking at the Gotham TV Awards, Kelley said there’s no official confirmation yet — but the desire to reunite is strong across the board.

“We’re hoping it happens,” he shared. “We had a great time doing the first two seasons, and we all want to do it again … I’m hopeful it’ll happen.”

The series, based on the bestselling novel by Liane Moriarty, boasts an all-star ensemble cast: Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, Zoë Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley. While none of the actors are currently under contract for another season, Kelley confirmed the commitment is there — it's just a matter of wrangling busy schedules and publicists.

“We’d need to corral a lot of high-calibre talent… but everyone is very committed to it,” he said optimistically.

In fact, fan-favourite leads Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman — both executive producers on the show — have already been stirring the pot. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Witherspoon joked about being flooded with messages from the cast.

“I’ve got Laura [Dern] calling me and Zoë [Kravitz] and Shailene [Woodley]. They're all like, ‘Nic said that we’re making Big Little Lies season three?’”

To which Kidman confidently replied, “But we are now! We’re moving fast and furious, and Liane is delivering the book.”

While HBO remains tight-lipped on an official renewal, the momentum is clearly building. With the original creative team and powerhouse cast all seemingly on board, fans may not have to wait much longer before the secrets of Monterey start unravelling again.
