Punjab sees sale of over 1.1 million sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Adha

During the ongoing Eid-ul-Adha celebrations, more than 1.1 million sacrificial animals have been sold across Punjab, 24NBewsHD TV channel on Sunday. 

The figures were released by the Punjab Local Government Department and cover data from 292 livestock markets operating in all nine administrative divisions of the province.

According to the statistics, over 1.5 million animals were brought into these markets in preparation for Eid.

Lahore Division led all regions with the highest number of animal sales.

A total of 665,000 animals were sold in Lahore’s markets, including 443,000 small animals such as goats and sheep, and 222,000 large animals such as cows and bulls.

Faisalabad Division also reported significant trading activity, with 112,000 animals arriving in the markets and 88,000 being sold.

Bahawalpur followed closely, recording sales of more than 100,000 animals.

Dera Ghazi Khan (DG Khan) Division posted more modest figures, with sales of 38,000 small animals and 30,000 large animals.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi’s markets received 84,000 animals, out of which 46,000 were sold.

Other divisions also reported noteworthy performance:

Sahiwal: 47,000 animals sold
Sargodha: 94,000 animals sold
Gujranwala: 10,000 animals sold
Multan: 16,000 animals sold

Officials from the Local Government Department credited the smooth operation of markets to improved organization and better facilities this year. 

The large volume of sales underscores the economic and cultural significance of Eid-ul-Adha in Punjab, with thousands of citizens participating in the religious ritual of animal sacrifice.
