FIA to set up FATF desks nationwide to strengthen compliance efforts

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to establish Financial Action Task Force (FATF) desks across the country to strengthen implementation and monitoring of FATF-related requirements.

According to official orders, the FIA director general has directed all additional directors general and zonal directors to establish dedicated FATF desks in their respective jurisdictions.

The desks will be responsible for collecting details of FATF-related actions on six different tasks assigned to Pakistan. The information gathered through these desks will be compiled and presented during the possible FATF mutual evaluation scheduled for the last quarter of this year.

The orders also instruct all FIA wings and zones to ensure full implementation of FATF tasks. Designated focal persons have been directed to submit implementation reports to the FIA DG within seven days regarding the execution of the issued directives.

A proforma based on seven Terms of Reference (TORs) for the FATF desks has also been attached with the orders to facilitate reporting and monitoring mechanisms.

The FIA emphasized that both the agency and other law enforcement bodies must effectively implement the tasks assigned by the FATF as part of Pakistan’s compliance obligations.
