FM vows to fight with opposition in legal, constitutional way

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Tuesday said that tabling no-confidence motion was the constitutional right of the opposition, adding that the government would fight with the opposition in a constitutional, legal and political way and defeat them.

According to the report broadcasted by 24NewsHD TV channel, the foreign minister said that Imran Khan was an elected prime minister whom the people gave a heavy mandate in 2018.

“Who are these people to demand resignation from Imran Khan?” he said and added that he had talked to the prime minister about the no-confidence issue and he too was ready to give a tough fight to the opposition.

“This is politics. The opposition will do its work, and we will defend ourselves. And for what good reason will the PML-Q, MQM, and BAP support the opposition alliance?” he said.

“The opposition alliance is fighting for its survival. The prime minister has been informed about their motives. I too have some information about the opposition’s movement, and I will divulge that information soon,” he added.

Qureshi also maintained that the opposition parties did not trust each other and the manifesto of each of those parties were also different.

“Had they cared about people’s problems, they would not have caused so much destruction in Sindh,” he said.

“If they had cared about people’s problems, they would not have looted national wealth and destroyed institutions,” he added.

“The PPP is leading the long march to save its ‘coffers’, not the country,” he deplored and added that most of the people in the long march had been brought from Sindh for Rs30,000.

“We are not afraid of any of their ultimatums. We will fight hard,” he vowed and flayed that the opposition gave preference to personal interests by submitting the no-confidence motion. “Their no-trust motion will not benefit a common person.”

He also stated that Prime Minister Imran Khan would not be pressurised by the no-trust move, adding that whatever decision he took would be in favour of the country and the party.

“Imran Khan has also contacted the disgruntled leaders of the party and explained everything to them,” the foreign minister said and added that difference of opinion took place in a democracy.

“I am sure all members of the party will take the right decision, and they will support Imran Khan in his decisions,” he expressed his optimism.

“I have spent a lot of time with Chaudhry brothers, and they fulfill their commitment if they are not deceived,” he said.

“Had the PML-N not hurt confidence of the Chaudhry brothers, they would not have parted ways with the Sharif brothers,” he pointed out.

“The Chaudhry brothers and their son have expressed their support to the government, and we believe in their words,” he stated.
