China opposes strikes on Iran, urges de-escalation in region

China has called for an immediate halt to attacks on Iran, expressing strong opposition to the ongoing strikes and urging efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading further across the region, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to Chinese officials, the use of force cannot provide a lasting solution to the crisis. Wang Yi, China’s foreign minister, said the war should not have happened and warned that continued military action risked deepening instability in the Middle East.

The Chinese foreign minister also said that attempts to bring about regime change in Iran, which he suggested had been part of a United States strategy, had not gained support or acceptance.

Beijing stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty and security of Iran as well as countries in the Gulf region. 

Chinese officials urged all parties to exercise restraint and take steps to prevent the conflict from escalating further.

China also called on major global powers to play a constructive role in reducing tensions and promoting dialogue in order to restore stability in the region.
