Gas supply to CNG sector in Sindh, Balochistan suspended for indefinite period

The gas crisis has intensified during the holy month of Ramadan, bringing troubling news for consumers who rely on compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative fuel, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the report, authorities in Karachi have suspended gas supply to the CNG sector for an indefinite period. As a result, all CNG stations across Sindh and Balochistan have been closed until further notice.

According to Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), the suspension of gas supply to the CNG sector has been implemented to ensure uninterrupted provision of gas to domestic consumers during Ramadan.

The company said that gas is being supplied to household and commercial consumers during Sehr and Iftar timings to facilitate residents observing the fast. However, in other parts of the day the shortage remains severe.

In Karachi, gas supply is being suspended daily from 8am to 3pm as part of load management measures.

Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Petroleum and CNG Association strongly criticised the decision, saying the move has further burdened citizens already struggling with rising fuel costs.

The association stated that the recent increase of Rs55 in petrol and diesel prices has placed an unbearable financial strain on the public.

The association also condemned the closure of alternative fuel options, arguing that the suspension of CNG supply will aggravate transportation costs and intensify economic pressure on consumers.
