Jennifer Lopez reflects on divorce from Ben Affleck: “I promised my kids i’d come out stronger — and i did”

Jennifer Lopez is opening up about the emotional aftermath of her split from Ben Affleck, revealing how a heartfelt promise to her children helped her find peace during what she called a “difficult” time.

In a candid interview with Spain’s El Pais, the 55-year-old superstar said she vowed to her 17-year-old twins, Max and Emme, that she would emerge from her divorce “stronger and better” — a promise she proudly says she has kept.

“I said, ‘I promise you, this is a difficult time, but you’re going to see that I’ll come out the other side stronger and better,’” Lopez shared. “I promised them that and I did it. And they feel it now. That gives me a great sense of peace in my life.”

Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, in August of last year after just two years of marriage — a rekindled romance that once gripped the headlines with their “Bennifer 2.0” love story. But since the separation, Lopez says she has not only grown but helped guide her children through the emotional turbulence.

“I’m proud of myself for that,” she said. “And I’m proud that I was able to navigate my children through difficult times, that they’re stronger and better because of it.”

Now, the On the Floor singer says she’s ready to return to the spotlight and enjoy life again: “So, it’s a great time to go out there and dance and sing and have a good time with everybody.”

Despite the split, Lopez and Affleck appear to have kept things amicable — especially when it comes to blending their families. Last month, Lopez’s twins were seen joining Affleck’s children — Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 13, from his previous marriage to Jennifer Garner — at the premiere of The Accountant 2.

Affleck, speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, praised Lopez as “spectacular” and said she remains an “enormously important” person in his life. He also emphasized their ongoing family bond: “I love her kids. They’re wonderful… great ongoing relationship with them.”

While social media has swirled with theories and speculation — including revivals of the infamous "Bennifer curse" — both stars have taken the high road, focused on family, and, in Lopez’s case, resilience.

“I’m happier that I’m a step further along than I was a year ago, two years ago, three years ago,” Lopez said. And for now, it seems, she’s dancing to the rhythm of healing and new beginnings.
