Over 6,600 foreign medical graduates set for NRE-1 exam on May 17

Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has made the national registration examination (NRE) mandatory for medical and dental graduates who obtained their degrees abroad and wish to secure permanent registration and practice in Pakistan, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.

According to the PMDC, 6,669 candidates have registered for the first phase of the examination scheduled for May 17.

Among the registered candidates, 97 are dentistry graduates, while the remaining applicants are foreign medical graduates holding MBBS or equivalent medical degrees from overseas institutions.

The first step of the NRE will be held on Sunday, May 17.

PMDC said the online registration portal for the examination was closed on May 4, while candidates have formally been informed about examination centres, schedules, and other instructions.

The council said the purpose of the NRE is to assess the professional competence, academic standards, and clinical skills of foreign-qualified medical graduates through a uniform evaluation system.

Only candidates who successfully clear the examination will be eligible for permanent registration and medical practice in Pakistan, PMDC added.
