Denmark to ban social media use for children under 15

The Danish government has decided to ban the use of social media platforms for children under the age of 15, in a move aimed at safeguarding young people’s mental health, international media reported on Saturday.

According to officials, parents will be allowed to grant limited access to certain platforms for children under 13 years of age, but overall restrictions will apply to younger users.

The decision follows Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s recent call to curb social media use among teenagers to protect their mental well-being.

Denmark’s move comes after Australia introduced a similar restriction last year, banning social media access for children under 16, amid growing global concern over the impact of online platforms on youth mental health.
