ECP announces by-election date for Omar Ayub’s vacant NA-18 Haripur seat

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the schedule for the by-election on the National Assembly seat (NA-18, Haripur), which fell vacant after the disqualification of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

According to the official schedule issued by the ECP, polling will take place on November 24, 2025.

Nomination papers can be submitted between October 15 and 17, while scrutiny of the papers will be held on October 22. Decisions on objections to nominations will be finalised by November 2.

The final list of candidates will be published on November 5, and election symbols will be allotted on November 6, according to the ECP.

It is pertinent to mention that on August 5, 2025, the ECP disqualified Omar Ayub, following his conviction in multiple anti-terrorism cases.

The disqualification followed orders from the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Faisalabad, which handed down convictions in three separate cases related to the May 9 violence.

The lawmaker was disqualified under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution, which bars any person convicted of an offence involving moral turpitude from being a member of parliament.

The ECP’s notification confirmed that Omar Ayub Khan’s NA-18 Haripur seat is now officially vacant, and a by-election will be conducted in accordance with election laws.
