Inam Ghani becomes sixth Punjab IGP under PTI govt
Shoaib Dastgir appointed federal anti-narcotics secretary
As the Centre and the Punjab government decided to replace Capt (retd) Shoaib Dastgir and get a new person to lead the police force, the decision came in favour of Inam Ghani, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
As per notification issued Tuesday afternoon, Inam Ghani, who was previously serving as the Additional IGP (South Punjab), thus became the sixth person to serve as the Punjab Police chief under the PTI government which came into power in August 2018.
Earlier, it was reported that three names had been forwarded to the prime minister after he directed the Establishment Division to provide a list for appointing the new provincial police chief.
The summary contained the name of Motorways Police IG Kaleem Imam, Additional IG (South Punjab) Inaam Ghani and Islamabad IGP Amir Zulfiqar.
Moreover, sources said that the prime minister had tasked his special assistant Shahzad Akbar with helping in choosing with a suitable person for the job.
On the other hand, Dastgir has now been appointed as the anti-narcotics secretary in Islamabad just within an hour of his removal as Punjab police chief.
Meanwhile, the government also decided to appoint AD Khawaja – another senior member of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) – as a Federal Ombudsman Member.
