Six dead in Lahore as neighbour’s wall falls on adjacent house

Six people, including five family members, were killed when the wall of a building collapsed and completely destroyed the adjacent house in the Taxali Gate of the Old City in Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The Rescue 1122 officials were able to recover four other persons – all children – in injured condition from the rubble after three-hour long efforts, who were rushed to the Mayo Hospital.

It is believed that the deadly incident occurred as the recent rains have further eroded the old structures in the region.

According to the victim family’s relatives, the wall collapsed as the building – a double-storey house – was in a poor condition near Tarannum Cinema. It hit the single-storey house of Javed at a time when he and his family members were asleep on the night between Monday and Tuesday.

The dead have been identified as Javed, 60, his wife Rubina, 48, 16-year-old Amina, six-year-old Hassan, four-year-old Zaigham and two-year-old Shujaat.

It is said that Amina had arrived from Gujranwala as a guest and was staying at Javed’s house.

On the other, the names of the injured children are: 16-year-old Attiqua, 15-year-old Mehwish, seven-year-old Kinza and three-year-old Ayyan.

Meanwhile, the victim family’s relatives have appealed Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to provide justice.

Similarly, one person was killed and three others were injured when the roof of a house caved in the Fateh Garh area of Sialkot. The dead has been identified as Sarfaraz, 22, while his brother Asad, 17, and two sisters – Ayesha, 24, and Aleena, 20, are currently in hospital for treatment.

However, their parents escaped unhurt as they were sleeping in another room at the time of the incident.

And in Bannu, one person died and four others, including three children, received serious wounds when one of the walls of their house collapsed at Ghauriwala in Bannu.
