Chenab, Sutlej continue to wreak havoc in Multan, Bahawalpur

Various villages in Multan and Bahawalpur regions were submerged on Monday as a high-level flood in Chenab and Sutlej rivers are wreaking havoc in the area.

In Multan, water level has started rising at Akbar Flood Dam at Head Muhammad Wala and it will rise from 412 feet to 413 feet. Water level at Sher Shah after exceeding the gauge remained at 393.20.

As a result, dozens of houses have submerged in flood water in Multan villages, especially in the Sher Shah area. Several areas, including Sher Shah, New Sher Shah and Nayeen Basti have submerged in flood water. Several settlements near Head Muhammad Wala Akbar Flood Dam have also come under water. Basti Ghanta Ghar, Nawabpur II, Muhammad Par Ghota, Hamrot Village and other settlements are under water at the moment.

Similarly, a high-level flood in the Sutlej River in Bahawalpur is out of control now. Water level in the river is now touching dangerous levels at the Empress Bridge. The water discharge at the Milsi Siphon has reached 117,000 cusecs. The gauge is also likely to go up to 13 feet at the Empress Bridge.

With the increase in the water level, the remaining Zamindar dams have been washed away. Five thousand houses in the village of Baqir Pura have been affected by the flood.

More than 50 settlements of Baqir Pura Sahlan and Veslan have submerged. The dam of Bhok Sial in Fatuwali has broken and the second Zamindar dam of Hanif Chandar in the village of Baqir Pura has also broken.

The dam of Basti Panohan in Jhangi Wala has broken and Baqir Pur Flood relief camp has been shifted to bypass due to dam breach.

Also, embankments were breached in Dodian, Basti Khairport and Basti Malana in Tehsil Sadar. Experts believe shock relay likely to intensify in Bahawalpur during next 24 hours.
