Shehbaz, Meloni discuss regional peace, welcome diplomatic momentum on US-Iran talks
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday, during which both leaders discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts and the broader regional security situation.
Prime Minister Meloni congratulated Pakistan on its successful diplomatic engagement in facilitating a ceasefire and renewed negotiations between the United States and Iran.
She also appreciated Islamabad’s role in hosting the upcoming US-Iran peace talks, terming it a significant step toward de-escalation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace and stability, welcomed the recent joint statement issued by key European and international leaders, including Italy, in support of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts.
He emphasized that dialogue and cooperation remain essential to addressing complex regional challenges.
During the conversation, both leaders also expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Lebanon, stressing the urgency of coordinated international action to prevent further escalation.
They agreed that sustained diplomatic engagement and collective efforts by the global community are crucial to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
