Maryam Nawaz to ‘appear’ before NAB on August 11

PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has decided to appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on August 11, reported 24NewsHD TV channel, quoting its sources, on Sunday.

The PML-N Vice President was summoned by the NAB in connection with the Jati Umra property. Maryam has been called up for allegedly transferring 200 acres of Jati Umra land illegally in her name.

It is not the first allegation that Maryam is facing as she has already been accused of money laundering and assets beyond means accusations in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. Last year in August, she was arrested in the case while she was visiting his incarcerated father in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail.

However, the Lahore High Court later granted bail to her in the matter and was released from prison in December. Before being shifted to the Kot Lakhpat jail, she also spent some time in the NAB detention, which had obtained physical remand for an accountability court.

According to the TV channel, Maryam after consultations with party leaders and her lawyers has decided to appear in the NAB office on August 11. Party leaders and workers will go along her to the NAB offices in Lahore.

While strongly condemning the NAB summons to Maryam Nawaz, partly leader Khawaja Imran Nazir said the PTI government had done nothing except carrying out its political vendetta.

Earlier this month, the NAB arrested Muhammad Usman – the chief financial officer of the Sharif Group of Companies and got a 14-day physical remand from an accountability court in Lahore.

Also on Saturday, the NAB has summoned another PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi on August 17 at its Lahore office. The NAB also sent Hanif Abbasi a questionnaire comprising 20 queries. He has been summoned in a case relating to the corruption in Sports Board Punjab.
