FIA detains two passengers accused of illegal travel to Iraq via Iran

The Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) immigration authorities in Multan have detained two passengers who allegedly travelled illegally to Iraq through Iran, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the report, the passengers, identified as Safdar Iqbal and Faisal Shehzad, are being questioned after arriving in Multan from the United Arab Emirates on flight G9558. 

FIA officials said the passengers' travel records were not available in the relevant system.

During initial questioning, the two men allegedly told investigators that a travel agent named Nasir had promised them employment and arranged for them to travel abroad illegally. 

They accused the agent of facilitating their journey to Iraq through Iran.

According to the passengers, they were arrested by Iraqi police shortly after reaching Iraq and remained in custody for seven days. 

FIA officials said the initial investigation had also revealed important information about their previous travel history.

One of the passengers had reportedly been deported from Turkey in the past, according to the FIA.

The matter has now been referred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Multan for further investigation into the alleged facilitation of illegal migration and the role of the travel agent.
