A big blow for the owners of 57,000 cars in Lahore as registration of the cars which was done 20 years ago has been cancelled after it came to the notice of the authorities that no transaction had been done by their owners for the last one year, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

The cars, whose registration has been cancelled, include private and commercial cars of over 1,300 CC.

Director Excise Qamarul Hassan has told 24News TV channel that despite prior intimation, owners of these cars failed to pay the token tax. “Amounts of millions of rupees are still outstanding against them,” he said, and added, “Among these thousands of cars are those whose owners only have open letters with them.”

He has said the cars whose registration stands cancelled will be impounded during their movement on the roads.

Those, Qamarul Hassan has added, who want to get the registration of their cars restored, it is advised that they file an appeal with the concerned excise taxation officer (ETO), who would decide their cases after checking how much token tax was due to be paid.

He urged the people to pay the token tax on their cars on time so that they could escape any tough penalty during the crackdown.
